Chapter from my childhood: Where is Ambi?

To be honest with you, my life history isn’t as interesting as I want it to be (ideally, it would include at least one fully functional life-sized Lego home). Nonetheless, I’ve decided to dig up a story from my past. No one is making a movie on it (yet), but it does have all the elements: a car, a school, and two kids accidentally abandoning their youngest sibling.

For this story to make sense, here are some things you should know:

1.     I have two brothers: Ambi and Raju

2.     Ambi is the youngest sibling

3.     This preamble wasn’t complicated enough to break down into a list but I did it anyway to look smart

When we were kids, the three of us would go home from school in our car. We’d meet up at one spot and walk to the car. Or Raju and I would, at least. Ambi would sprint to the car, hide in the backseat, and giggle very loudly for the rest of the ride home.

The conversation would typically go like this:

Me (dramatically): Oh no! Raju, where did Ambi go?

 (muffled giggle from the backseat)

Raju (also dramatically): I think we left him at school!

(muffled giggle from the backseat intensifies)

This happened pretty much every single day. So this afternoon, it wasn’t any different.

Me (dramatically): Oh no! Raju, where did Ambi go?

(silence)

Raju (also dramatically): Did we leave him at school?

(silence)

Me: I think we did!

(silence)

Raju (dropping the act): Did he get better at hiding his giggling or did we actually leave him behind?

We checked the backseat. There was no Ambi. We really did leave him behind.

But don’t worry, you know how this story ends. We managed to find him. Or a kid that looked remarkably like him that we spent the rest of our childhood with and are very attached to now.
